On the 19th of May in the year 1798, a fleet of French ships led by the youthful general Napoleon Bonaparte departed from Toulon with the intention of confronting England’s influence in Egypt.
He had high hopes that, by conquering the Nile, he could establish a French stronghold in the east. This stronghold would serve as a potential threat to British power and wealth in India. After the Nile Valley quickly came under French control, Napoleone was compelled to return home due to the chaotic political situation.
